That's why I'm cautious about this new sequel (reboot?) by the same people. but didn't quite get what made it so good. It seems like the developers caught lightning in a bottle with the original Project I.G.I. The sequel added certain complexities, which sound cool on paper (which is why I was quite excited about getting it) but they all made the game wonkier and vaguer in practice. The original was very simplistic but everything fit together perfectly to create a really hardcore experience. The engine was probably better too so there were now forests and other more complex environments but oddly, the hilly terrain looked far more unnatural here than in the bare original game. The weapons weren't as reliable for you anymore (in the original the first shot would always hit dead center), there was a really wonky stealth system. 2: Covert Strike was close enough to the original's formula but still felt terribly off. My worry with this reboot is that the sequel, Project I.G.I. There were no checkpoints, you didn't have a lot of health. You had to pick everyone off who could get in the way, preferably from far enough away so they couldn't see you yet, or from outside their field of vision. Every level but the last was some kind of base or barracks or airport that you had to infiltrate. They were mostly empty but huge environments (that extended faaar beyond the gameplay-relevant area) with military base type buildings and assets plopped on top.
